Alliance for the Arts Programs and Events
|
Generous
grants from the Rockwall Womens League and The Tenant Corporation
helped The Alliance, in partnership with the local PTA, to produce
the 2001-2002 Artist in Residence Program in five local schools.
Funding for 2003-2004 academic year is in place and we anticipate
another successful program.

CULTURAL
ARTS EDUCATION
The Alliance continues its successful Artists in Residence Program
for area schools during the each academic year. Through a partnership
with the local elementary school PTA programs, various professional
visual and performing artists immerse themselves with students from
five elementary schools, working in the areas of opera, film making,
photo journalism, African story telling, expressive percussion and
creative math and a host of other art forms. Most artists participate
with the schools for three to five days, teaching, encouraging and
nurturing creative young minds. The Alliance continues to financially
support this project and strives to expand the program to additional
schools within the county. |

ART
IN PUBLIC PLACES PROGRAM
The Alliance served as a catalyst for the creation of the Art in
Public Places Commission and officially began Rockwall’s
program to place quality works of art in public places. The first
piece
being promoted for Art in Public Places is “Discovery”,
a bronze life-size statue representing the founding father of
Rockwall
as they discovered the rock wall that lies beneath the city. The
city of Rockwall has endorsed this project with a contribution
of
$30,000. Currently the Alliance is accepting donations towards
the project’s final cost of $117,000. Donors to the “Discovery”
project will receive recognition on a plaque adjacent to the statue
for a minimum $500 donation. A limited edition of replica statues
is also available for sale as a means of raising funds. Completion
of the statue is estimated to be in the spring of 2008. For more
information on how you can contribute to this historic project,
please contact Joyce Musser at 214-695-8838. |
